Due to the size to most bonsai pots which are small and shallow, it is necessary to repot your plant at least once a year. This will provide the plant with new space to grow and help to rejuvenate new growth.
To repot, use a chopstick or the handle of a spoon and dig round the inner rims of the pot to loosen the plant inside the pot. Tilt the pot facing down and gently shake the plant out.
Use a small rake or chopstick gently remove some of the soil at the bottom of the plant. And at the same time cut off some dead and odd roots sticking out. Do not worry that the plant might be injured as Wrightia is very hardy.
In the meantime, prepare a mixture of baked earth (easily available at garden stores) and some compost. Ideally, the soil mixture of 60% baked earth and 40% compost would be fine.
Next, replant the plant back into the pot and add the newly soil mixture into the pot. Press down the soil mixture round the plant firmly.
Next, water the plant thoroughly and place it in a shady place for 2 to 3 weeks before placing it out for direct sunlight. Do not add any fertiliser for at least a month after repotting.
